FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you accept ELC funding?

Yes! All Building Blocks locations accept School Readiness funding.

Do I need to provide meals and snacks for my child?

No. Building Blocks locations participate in the Child Care Food Program.

A nutritious  breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, and infant formula is included in the tuition price for enrolled students.

All families must submit a food program application, regardless of income.

What if my child is not potty trained?

Students begin our program at many different points in their training. Our staff is prepared to support each child's individual needs during this process.

What if my child has allergies?

Building Blocks schools do not serve or permit peanut products, due to allergies amongst our students. If your child has an allergy, please list them in the enrollment paperwork. If you have concerns regarding allergies or medical needs for your child, please do not hesitate to ask!

What is your discipline policy?

Building Blocks Learning programs utilize positive behavior guidance, redirection, and education as the primary discipline method.

"Discipline" is the process of changing a student's behavior from inappropriate to exemplary. We are never satisfied with merely stopping poor behavior; we desire to teach the student to make the right choices. Our positive methods of discipline encourage self-control, self-direction, self-esteem, and cooperation amongst children.

We do not utilize "time-out" or use phrases such as "good boy" or "bad boy". Physical abuse, humiliation, teasing, ignoring, isolating, taunting, bribery, verbal intimidation, withholding food, or having a threatening attitude towards children are never allowed.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL CORPORAL PUNISHMENT BE USED.

What are your class ratios?

Building Blocks adheres to the Florida Department of Children and Families recommended student/teacher ratios.

6 weeks to 1 year:
1 teacher for every 4 infants

One-Year-Olds:
1 teacher for every 6 toddlers

Two-Year-Olds:
1 teacher for every 11 toddlers

Three-Year-Olds:

1 teacher for every 15 students

Four-Year-Olds:

"It is my child's first time in school and I am a nervous wreck!"

It is 100% normal for both child and family to experience some anxiety regarding their first days of school.

Some Tips:

  • Create a goodbye handshake or routine for each day.
  • Stay positive: your child needs you to be like a rock.
  • Don't compare them to others. Some children need extra time to adjust- this is OK!
  • Remind them that you will always be back to pick them up.

Speak with your school's administrators and teachers to develop a plan to help make this transition as smooth as possible!
